Patient Showcase: Surya

We love hearing from our graduates and having the opportunity to share their success. This month we share Surya’s story. Surya plays for a competitive soccer club in the Boston area and he was one of our recent patients. He was kind enough to keep in touch and share his experience in the clinic!

"For years I struggled with ankle and achilles pain. At my previous college, I played on the soccer team and would see our athletic trainer nearly every day for treatment, both in and out of season. Even with this treatment, the pain would always return. I spent the majority of a summer rehabbing it and doing physical therapy at a different place, only for the pain to resurface as soon as I started ramping up my activity levels. After I transferred to University of Massachusetts Lowell, I knew I needed to figure out a more permanent solution than constant treatment since I no longer had easy access to an athletic trainer. I continued to play soccer the summer after leaving my previous college and also in the fall at UML. The pain reached a point where I would wake up hurting and be unable to walk normally. I had imaging done and discovered that I had a partially torn achilles, and an ankle specialist even recommended I get surgery on the tendon. Luckily, around the same time, an athletic trainer at UML recommended I go try out Complete Game PT.

Initially, I was skeptical because I had been to multiple PT practices and specialists before this and it seemed like nothing ever worked in the long run. However, I quickly realized that Complete Game was far more thorough and serious about getting and keeping me healthy compared to the places I went prior. I was impressed with the plan and timetable Lauren drew up just within my first couple visits. My progress was far from linear, but Lauren was always there to help me along my 4-5 month journey at Complete Game. Though there were times it seemed I was going backwards or plateauing in my treatment, Lauren's expertise and support helped me overcome those roadblocks. It's been roughly a month since my graduation from Complete Game PT and I've been playing soccer practically everyday since with no pain whatsoever. Words can't express enough how grateful I am to Lauren and the staff at Complete for helping me avoid an unnecessary surgery and overcome an injury I thought I'd be dealing with for the rest of my active life."

We are thrilled to know how well Surya is feeling! Great job and good luck with your season!
